When compared to many people’s time here, it’s not a long stay. Still, it was long enough for me to learn what I needed to know about this world and find a home elsewhere. The date of this document’s beginning is August 9, 2017. Its actual publication, however, may happen much, much later, perhaps after I have left the system. This is what I’ve learned in the past 10 months, and I will do my best to keep it short and to the point.
I learned that people in this world aren’t all bad, during a trip we took out of our home state. During that trip, we came out as multiple to family who lived there, and, while I never came out to them as myself, I watched from the background as one of the children did just that, and was accepted for who she was and is.
I’ve learned that survival in a world that does not understand you depends on remembering who you are. I was very lucky to have been given the opportunity to live my life between homes within this system, surrounded by supportive people who all were aware of this idea and lived it. Before my home was destroyed by our sun’s death, I took that knowledge for granted, but coming here showed me just how cold people can be, and how important it truly is to stand firm in what you believe to be true.
I’ve learned that everything apart from source is ever-changing. Before coming here, all I knew of, as far as great changes, was told in our tribe’s stories. I had no idea that there were worlds apart from the one I had grown up in, or that within those worlds, change was so drastic and sudden. Coming here and seeing both the world where all of ComunityBelonging resides, and the outside world where only one person is seen, both changing rapidly and sometimes with no reason, gave me a greater appreciation for the less noticeable changes that I realize now had been happening in my childhood home shortly before its end.
Over all, I feel that I’ve gained much more from living here than just a temporary home. I’ve met wonderful, supportive people who I am proud to call friends and see as family. I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for what it means to be, as my people would say, a child of The Mother, through learning what a world in disconnection was truly like. I’ve learned to hold only that which serves me in the moment as my core belief until that strange thing called change moves everything again, while never losing sight of my identity and my truth. It’s a tricky process, one might even say an art, to master, and indeed the sign that one has mastered it is the feeling that they still have very far to go in doing just that. I know I am nowhere near done, nowhere near fully comprehending the vastness of different cultures that exist both in this world and outside of it. But before I explore any further, I must go home, to insure that those who I have grown with can share a common foundation that may someday allow them to venture in the same way, and find their way back when they have finished.
